New series of SQ rescue parachutes for paragliders
Square parachutes, unlike round ones, are more stable when descending and have a higher coefficient of resistance. Therefore, at the same area of the parachute, the rate of descent is lower. When certifying the SQ-33 according to EN-12491 with a mass of 120 kg, the rate of descent was 5 m / s. according to calculations, even when using the SQ-33 for a mass of up to 140 kg, the rate of descent should not exceed 5,5 meters per second. The SQ-23LT lightweight parachute weighs only 1 kilogram and can save up to 95 kg.
For maximum weight reduction, all SQ series parachutes use thin Liros RL Safety Line Dyneema 1.3 slings. this was decided to do because the number and length of slings are higher compared to the traditional round parachute.
